About

Thank you for taking the time to browse through our website! Interested to know more about HVC and who is behind it? Here is an intro and welcome from our founder…

Why hey there, my name is Jody Coyle (she/they) and I am a 26 year old born and bred in rural-urban North Devon, UK. Growing up on the outskirts of town, somewhere between the coast and countryside, I refused to shy away from being ‘different’ and have always been driven to break the mould and smash the stigma.

That's me!

My Vulva

For many who know me, I’m known as the ‘All-Things-Vagina Friend’, although I like to politely correct them to using the term ‘vulva’ instead! (FYI. The vagina is only one part of the female genitalia and it’s the internal part. The external part which is commonly mislabelled, is the VULVA! So please call it a vulva!)

My relationship with my own vulva has been ‘complicated’ to say the least. She has witnessed so much pain and trauma, but up until early adulthood, little thought had gone into how this would affect my physical, emotional and sexual wellbeing. I became a parent at age 19 and I was so unprepared for the journey that was ahead of me. The realisation came that I actually felt very disconnected with my body and I began to realise that “I own this sh*t and I need take back control and understand my body’s needs!”

In my twenties I have dedicated so much time to educating myself about the vulva and for the most part, unlearning so much crap we learn- or most often, don’t learn and unknowingly go on to falsely believe early on in our lives. Like that periods are gross and embarrassing. LIES! I found it incredibly frustrating that I was only just finding this information out in my adulthood! I've always had a really open relationship with my mum; the door was always open for questions. However she was only able to educate as far as her knowledge and experience would allow her, which meant for the most part we have been learning lots together as adults. And from the many conversations I have had with many different people, there seems to be a reoccurring theme and most share a similar experience.

In 2021, I qualified as an accredited relationship and sex educator with ACET UK, so that I could bring a vulva-view to sex education. Sex ed and the understanding of our sexual organs should never be a privilege. No matter who we are, where we come from, our cultures, our faiths and beliefs… each and every one of us deserve to have a good understanding of our genitalia and reproductive system. We should all be given the tools and support to learn about how our bodies work, how to care for it properly, to know what’s normal and how we can build our confidence in feeling comfortable with how we look.

Happy Vulva Club

Happy Vulva Club first started out as an Instagram page that was set up with the hope to raise awareness, educate and support others who were on a similar journey. A community quickly started to grow and so it has developed further into a wider platform to empower vulva-owners to be proud, to love and celebrate their bodies, but also to bring together other like-minded people on a similar mission.

It is an inclusive space online, where everyone is treated as equals, regardless of the race, sexuality or gender.  A place which can help re-educate generations of vulva-owners. Who like me, grew up calling their genitals nicknames, who were never told that the vagina is self-cleaning and weren’t educated about the 5 gynaecological cancers (womb, vaginal, vulval, cervical and ovarian). Where no subject is taboo or off topic!

HVC is on one hell of a mission to go bigger than ever before. Our priority is building our platform as somewhere people can share knowledge and experience, but most importantly can connect, feel supported and find a community where they feel like they belong.
